GalaxyCon Raleigh 2025 is just a few days away, and we can’t wait to be back! As the anticipation builds, we’re reminiscing on our team member Caitlyn Simson’s interview with Grey DeLisle at last year’s GalaxyCon.

CAITLYN SIMSON: First question: Do you prefer to work alone, or do you prefer to play off of others in the recording booth?

GREY DELISLE: Oh my gosh, the first thing about Covid is that now I work by myself all the time, and it was so wonderful working with all my friends, and we just had so much fun, but I will say it does allow me more time with my family and the sessions go a lot faster with just me. So, it’s good in different ways, but I do like both. [I] miss my friends, but I get to see them at cons!

SIMSON: What previous role do you miss playing most?

DELISLE: Azula from Avatar: the Last Airbender because she’s part of my soul, but then again I do get to play her at cons as well, so, I do her voice all day long.

SIMSON: Are there any key markers, traits, or voices that you hear in your day-to-day [life] and think, “oh, they might be a good voice actor?”

DELISLE: Oh, wow. Anybody who’s really versatile. I think that versatility is something that’ll keep you around in the game for a really long time. Because some people have a really distinct voice, but they can’t play any other characters, and with budgets getting cut more and more, they want somebody who can do as many different characters as they can for one price. So, work on your accents and [on] sounding as different as possible in each voice.

SIMSON: Do you model any of your voices after people you know, or are they all unique?

DELISLE: Oh, I do that all the time. I had a theater teacher – and one of the characters I play on The Loud House, her name is Mrs. Bernardo, and I, and I do [my theater teacher’s] voice a lot for her because she spoke in standard American English.

SIMSON: Last thing – I noticed on the Ask Me Anything on Reddit you did 9 years ago that you were passed over for a job at Olive Garden. I worked there during my undergrad, and I just wanted to let you know that you’re not missing out on anything.

DELISLE: Yeah, no hospitaliano for us.
